The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a process and behavioural model that helps assess the maturity of an organizations processes and decrease risks in service, product, and software development.
The Capability Maturity Model (CMM) which was developed in 1987 by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) was a predecessor of CMMI. SEI is a research centre at Carnegie-Mellon University established by the United States Department of Defence to assess the expertise and quality of software contractors.
The objectives of CMMI include fulfilling customer needs and expectations, increased market growth, and improved quality of products and services.
